Abstract
3D Geovisualization of Shipping Noise Exposure on Whales in Canada
Track: Ocean and Maritime
Authors: Simone Cominelli, Brent Hall
Ocean vessel noise is increasing worldwide and is known to impact marine life, especially in coastal environments. This project integrates Unity gaming engine with Esri software to create a 3D geovisualization environment for analysis of ship noise, modeled from satellite-AIS movement data, and southern resident killer whale distribution in the Salish Sea, BC, Canada. The project was implemented through a partnership between Memorial University, University of Victoria, and Esri Canada.
