Participatory GIS for Community Resilience using ArcGIS Collector
Track: Disaster and Emergency Management
Authors: Janeen Kim Cayetano, Ian Carlo Zuniga
Following the catastrophic Typhoon Haiyan in Eastern Leyte, Philippines, Catholic Relief Services initiated a disaster risk reduction project in two highly affected municipalities. ArcGIS Collector enabled the community to plot key resources, evacuation centers, and hazards. Data collected now serve as the local government’s primary information base that help them design inclusive evacuation routes, effective early warning systems, and preposition relief goods.
