Abstract
GIS Techniques for Helping Displaced Persons Worldwide
Track: Sustainable Development
Authors: Colleen Campbell
There are 65 million displaced persons worldwide due to disaster, war, famine, or other factors. Duration can span from weeks to decades. These persons need safety, food, shelter and other support; governments and NGOs work to fulfill many needs. However, much of the information is incomplete non-geographic databases and paper maps which become quickly obsolete. This presentation explores how mobile, web and PPGIS aid communication and meet the needs of each individual quickly and accurately.
