Abstract
Seagrass Resource Mapping: Aerial Photos versus Satellite Imagery
Track: Environmental Management
Authors: Cynthia Meyer
This study compared the use of aerial photointerpretation to maximum likelihood classification (MLC) of satellite (Landsat 5 Thematic Mapper (TM) and Earth Observing-1 (EO-1) Hyperion). The overall accuracy for the TM MLC classification result was 91% (k = 0.85) and the Hyperion was 95% (k = 0.92). In comparison, the validation accuracy (n=72) of the composite seagrass resource map was 81%. These results support the use of satellite imagery to map the spatial extent of the seagrass resource.
