Mapping and Spatial Analysis of an Ancient Capital in Southern Mexico
Track: Archaeology

The Teozacoalco Archaeological Project is using GPS devices to map surface remains of structures and artifacts of the capital of a Prehispanic Mixtec kingdom in Oaxaca. Rugged mountaintop terrain makes GPS mapping the methodology of choice for this project, resulting in map creation that is more rapid and with fewer errors than traditional methods. ArcMap Hot Spot analysis helps pinpoint statistically significant foci of artifacts to locate functional areas and habitation changes through time.
