Putting UAS to the Test for Substation Construction, Monitoring, and Operations

UAS are proving to be feasible tools for data collection. American Electric Power undertook an integrated design project to test UAS use in station operations. Throughout a year+ construction project, AEP conducted recurring UAS collects to assess safety, construction monitoring, land owner issues, & 4d scheduling – with a focus on accuracy, format, & 2D/3D datasets. This presentation focuses on specifics of approach, challenges, & successes associated with UAS operations within a station.
