Habitat loss, nutrient pollution and other stressors have diminished coastal ecosystem health globally, but bivalve and seaweed aquaculture can contribute to their recovery. Using ArcGIS, we conducted a global-scale suitability analysis of where restorative aquaculture could expand to aid ecosystem recovery. We integrated global spatial datasets on the extent of eutrophication, habitat degradation, and other relevant factors to identify priority marine ecoregions for restorative aquaculture.
