Shaping the Narrative: Using Open Data to Drive Perceptions of Rochester

For years, RPD's interaction with media has been crisis-driven. An event occurs and RPD responds. The context of these events is shaped by politicians, activists, and viral videos. RPD's Office of Business Intelligence will alter this dynamic with its open data site (hosted by ESRI) by shaping the context within which critical events are understood. By releasing new datasets with prepackaged analyses in the form of stories, RPD can shape the context in which critical events occur.
