Put Your Money Where Your Map Is: Spatial Prioritization by Participatory GIS

In an era of declining budgets, collaboration is necessary to prioritize where to concentrate effort in data collection. We built a Web AppBuilder widget for users to prioritize areas on a map. We conducted statistical analysis on the results to produce a hotspot map showing the areas of highest priority that can be used to direct future mapping efforts. We successfully used this process in marine mapping projects in Long Island Sound, the coast of Washington State, and Lake Michigan.
