Abstract
Garamba: GIS in Protected Area Management & Combating Illegal Wildlife Trade
Track: Non-Profit
Authors: Naftali Honig
Central Africa still has high levels of wildlife poaching, as well as trafficking networks that smuggle contraband internationally. By necessity, Garamba transcends traditional GIS in protected areas and incorporates the need for situational awareness and intelligence to keep track of trends, imagery, and real-time data, with the ability to disseminate analyses to anti-poaching and other forces of law and order. Instead of reinventing the wheel, we build on top of new, dynamic ESRI platforms.
