Abstract
The Limits of GIS: Towards a GIS of Place
Track: Transactions in GI Science
Authors: Alberto Giordano, Tim Cole
In this presentation we reflect back on our collaboration on the geographies of the Holocaust to argue for a GIS of place. During the course of our research, we progressively came to the realization that to fully comprehend and understand the geographies of the Holocaust we needed to combine the spatial methods and tools of GIS with a place-based epistemology that incorporates the voice of the victim. Such a research agenda will also make progress toward an “integrated history” of the Holocaust.
