In China, since the population and economy are growing rapidly, the resources are being reduced too fast. Finally, the environment has been getting worse. It is a serious social problem for how to manage and use the resources that are left. Therefore, Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) has established the Nationwide Resources and Environmental Database (NRED) with ArcInfo. By using the NRED, we can provide a scientific and accurate basis for the government to do decision making in the fields of resource utilization and management, economic development, environmental planning, and so forth.
