Long Beach Water Department aggressively launched a two-year GIS data conversion project in January 1994. The conversion aims to automate City-wide potable water, reclaimed water, and wastewater systems for better facilities management. The project involved detailed needs assessment, coordination with other City departments and establishment of City-wide graphic and nongraphic standards, design of relational database for future integration with SCADA and LIMS systems, and merger of ArcInfo GIS and CAD technologies for data conversion.
