Establishment of GIS DKI Jakarta, Indonesia

The Local Government of DKI Jakarta, with its area of 657 sq. km, was occupied by 8.8 million people in 1989. The average annual population growth is approximately 3.7% so that in 2005 it is expected to jump to 12 million people.

Realizing that all the development activities for physical urban development closely relate to land use, computer network within the relate units should be included in implementation of the information system i.e. Geographic Information System of DKI Jakarta.

Geographic Information System in Jakarta covers three major aspects:

  1. Land Information System
  2. Land Use Planning
  3. Land Taxation

The end product of this phase will be an operational GIS for the efficient and effective support of land administration within the local government of DKI Jakarta. The GIS will be developed for use at the dinas level (agency) of local government and the sub-dinas (sub-agency) level within the five wilayah/sectors that comprise DKI Jakarta. The participating dinas and suku dinas will include:
