Case Study -- IMAGIS Revisited

Nearly ten years after the much heralded Indianapolis Mapping and Geographic Infrastructure System (IMAGIS) project got underway, the Department of Public Works has updated its concept of GIS to include ODBC compliant relational database management systems, client/server hardware and software, multimedia applications, and pen-based computers. Using Esri's ArcInfo and ArcView 2 products combined with Hansen's ORACLE RDBMS and Microsoft Windows office and field applications, the City of Indianapolis' IMAGIS project continues to thrive and expand on its earlier success.

This paper chronicles the IMAGIS project from its inception and summarizes its strategic and tactical vision as it looks into the next 3-5 years.
