The addition of interapplication communication capability to ArcInfo has created an opportunity to develop a new user interface paradigm. This paper describes a development project to implement a user interface that integrates an open, tool-based menu approach with a more directed approach in which the user is led through a series of prompts. The user interface is implemented for ArcInfo through an iac application that integrates text, hypertext and menu buttons in a text widget.
