ArcInfo for the Integrated Evaluation of Ecosystem Components and Resources within the Bikin River Watershed

The Bikin is the only large scale watershed, which is included in a list of UN World Heritage sites, that has not undergone extensive anthropogenic impact. The Middle and Upper Bikin are also part of the traditional homelands of three indigenous peoples: Udege, Nanai and Oroch. The watershed contains the largest remaining intact stands of Korean Pine and broad leaf deciduous forests in the region and is home to more than 60 endemic and endangered species of plants and animals. ArcInfo is used for the purposes: to carry out inventories of natural resources, evaluation of biodiversity and to obtain the expert assessment of the project development. There are a number of thematic and systezied maps, allowing to consider a set of measures for preservation of the endangered species and their habitats. The main attention was drawn to create user information system, which combine most of the project information. It is aimed towards requests of decision makers concerning landuse practice and sustainable development of forest resource.
