ArcInfo applications that analyze hydrographic and bathymetric data are likely to increase in number and scope. This paper describes the growing interest in and potential for the use of GIS for analysis, the status of a translator Esri is developing to convert data in the International Hydrographic Organization's DX-90 data format, and some of the special problems connected with developing hydrographic applications.
