Seismic Microzoning of Santafe De Bogota Using GIS

The seismic-tectonic environment of Columbia, the properties of the underground of the city of Santafe de Bogota and the need to enforce the anti-seismic construction code, has originated this scientific-technical study, with the purpose to determine the seismic response of the underground in the city and evaluate the effects of a major earthquake.

For such objective, INGEOMINAS, a government agency, has created the project called: SEISMIC MICROZONING OF SANTAFE DE BOGOTA. To accomplish these objectives a geographic information system was implemented in order to faciltate the modeling and storing of the compiled information. The duration of the project is planned for two years, of which six months are already completed. The methodology includes the definition of geologic, tectonic, neotectonic, hydrogeologic, seismic, geophysical, geotectonic, hazardity and seismic vulnerability properties in a georelational database model. The ArcInfo software is used as GIS. This paper presents the data model for the tectonic geology and neotectonic properties.
