Using GIS for Emergency Planning, Response and Recovery

This paper provides a case study on how GIS mapping systems have been used to respond to recent disasters throughout the United States and the lessons learned by local, state and federal emergency management agencies. A discussion of how the ArcView 2 program has been integrated into an emergency management information system called SoftRisk and how it has been used for disaster response and exercises is also explored.
