The Inception, Implementation, and Modifications of a Full Year GIS Course
After the School District of Palm Beach County made the commitment to have a GIS program, participants from both the local government and schools met to develop the curriculum. The content, framework, assessment methods, and competency of the fifty-five page spiral curriculum will be deliberated. Jupiter High School is the only school in the county to have implemented this program. It is a full-year upper-level science class that includes original extensive research projects as part of the course. Based on information gathered the first time the program was given, revisions were made to the curriculum to make it more effective. Computer upgrades, extended research, computer simulations, and guest speakers are just some of the complements that make the route of learning eminent. These enhancements are instrumental in making the second program more successful.
