The Incorporation of LGSOWG Format Image Data into ArcInfo
The LGSOWG, or Landsat Ground Station Operations Working Group, format was created in the late 1960s to support the planned Landsat 1 system. Over the last twnety-five years an incredible amount of earth observation imagery was collected and stored in this format. Due to the format's complexity, the data are currently underutilized by the GIS community. Most ArcInfo users are unaware that their GIS is capable of both importing and enhancing the data. This presentation defines the nature of the LGSOWG format. It outlines the relevant information within the metadata files and offers techniques to promote the incorporation of this widely available, low-cost data source into ArcInfo.
