Chubb Elias-A Case Study for Using SDE in a Large-Scale Insurance Setting
Defining Issue: The use of SDE is enabling Chubb to bring the benefits of GIS beyond the catastrophe management department onto the enterprise desktop. The purpose of the paper is to highlight the application and its business functions, as well as to review the technical challenges and techniques associated with its development. Methodology: The ELIAS application consists of a custom GUI application that accesses an SDE database. The database consists of national coverages for Chubb policy data, U.S. businesses, environmental hazards, streets, hydrology, coastlines, political boundaries, and control zones. Policy data is downloaded on a weekly basis into a read-only database. The custom GUY supports underwriting, portfolio management, catastrophe management, and marketing application areas.
