Wasatch Front Transportation Data: Integration and Generalization

Defining Issue: Development of a national digital geospatial data framework layer for transportation. Project Description: The Utah Automated Geographic Reference Center (AGRC), as part of the Federal Geographic Data Committee (FGDC) National Spatial Data Infrastructure (NSDI) grant program, is conducting a project designed to integrate the most accurate, complete, and current transportation data and generalize the data to a scale of 1:100,000. Four Utah counties are being used that contain a diversity of transportation data in differing formats and at several scales of resolution including locally generated data, USGS digital line graphs, digital ortho quads, Forest Service cartographic feature files, and Utah's State Geographic Information Database. These counties also contain a mix of all jurisdiction and data types found in Utah as well as represent some of the most urban and rural areas found in the State. Results of this project will be development of documentation and procedures necessary to achieve the above goals, as well as real data that can form the seed for the transportation layer in the NSDI framework. This project expands upon the ongoing commitment at AGRC to the State Geographic Information Database as a category A2 NSDI Clearinghouse Node. The data derived from this project will be documented in accordance with the FGDC endorsed Content Standards for Digital Geospatial Metadata. ArcInfo will be the integration and generalization software, while ArcView will be used to manage the project status and schedule.
