Assigning Address Values by State Plane Coordinates Using ArcInfo for Land Records Management
The Public Works Department of Johnson County (PWD) is mandated with assigning address values to recently platted parcels in unincorporated areas of the County. Presently, address assignments are generated on an as-needed basis. A new address is assigned based on location information provided by the customer and analog map information available to the County Clerk. Assigned addresses are derived from address ranges based on Township-Range-Section PLS System. An algorithm has been developed in AML to aid a neophyte user in assigning an address value if provided with a single reference point in State Plane coordinates. The algorithm translates the point value into an address value, allowing users to dynamically draw a PLSS grid to aid the user in assigning an address location. The algorithm is written in AML and is an extension to an in-house ArcInfo mapping and query application. This paper will provide an overview of the algorithm implementation, preprocessing, data-base, and organizational
issues.
