Using SDE To Deliver Maps on the Internet
Defining Issue: Providing real-time interactive maps to multiple users for large data sets over the Internet. GIS Solution: Telstra NDS has used Esri's SDE and developed an interface between SDE and the Internet that ensures that the business requirements of developing an interactive map server are achieved. Methodology: The purpose of the paper is to highlight some of the challenges encountered along the development path of providing interactive mapping to the Telstra White Pages and Yellow Pages directories and to consider what it means to bring often complex GIS functionality to the non-GIS user via a Web browser.
