Phantom Forests Revisited
Defining Issue: Using GIS, remote sensing, and land management databases to follow forest development over time. GIS Solution: Multiple sets of Landsat imagery, historical records, ecological models, and land management and inventory data are combined to generate a time-sensitive landscape model. In this case, forest development stage, age, and productivity are modeled through time and compared to results of linear modeling efforts that were used in preparation of the forest plan in the 1980's. Statistical analysis and theoretical models are used to explain differences in results.
