Development of Worldwide Multi-Scale Bathymetric Data for World Vector Shoreline Plus (WVSPLUS)  Paper Text

The National Imagery and Mapping Agency (NIMA) recently completed the revision and conversion of its World Vector Shoreline Plus (WVSPLUS) digital database product. The project included adding bathymetric data, generalizing original data into smaller scale libraries, implementing design changes, and converting the data to NIMA's Vector Product Format (VPF) according to the WVSPLUS product specification. One particularly challenging portion of the project proved to be the creation and attribute population of the bathymetric line and area features. This paper discusses the experimental nature of the team's approach to AML and procedure development, and the resulting solution for bathymetric data creation. It also addresses both project impacts due to unique data characteristics and software limitations, and quality control issues.
