GIS - The Key Advantage for Telecommunications
As the GIS matures and becomes more mainstream IT, it is becoming accepted within the telecom industry as one of the key information technology and operations support tools for telecom operators, telecom regulators, and telecom systems suppliers. The paper provides an overview of current and future GIS applications in telecommunications in both wireline and wireless networks. Special consideration is given to the different approach and priorities for GIS implementations in competitive versus monopolistic telecom markets as well as developed versus developing nations.
