Using GIS for Wireless Communications Applications
Spatial data and spatial modeling analyses are considered as two key factors in designing and managing wireless communication systems. Although GIS spatial database and GIS-based spatial modeling tools have been used, they have not been a main GIS application. Now the wireless communication is considered as one of the most rapidly expanding industries and it is very important for the GIS industry to know whether the current GIS data and technology are suitable for current and potential GIS applications. The paper will discuss some of these issues, such as real seamless spatial database, multiple resolution raster database, three-dimensional urban database, powerful spatial analysis tools, near real-time GIS analyses, and using high-resolution satellite image data. It will also discuss some potential GIS applications in this industry.
