Top Soil Moisture in the Sahel as Observed with PBMR
Defining Issue: Linking surface temperature with top soil moisture in the Sahel through areal measurements with Push Broom Microwave Radiometer (PBMR) for global climate models.GIS Solution: A high correlation formula was established between field measurements of top soil moisture and PBMR measurements, using ArcInfo and ERDAS program features.Methodology: For global climate models small-scale investigations are used to define the diverse climate regions in the world. By defining the relationship between measured passive microwaves and measured top soil moisture, more accurate predictions can be made about the local climate behavior and changes. In the bigger picture this small study will form a link in the big chain of global climate models.Software: The local climate study was executed with the help of ArcInfo for topographical feature identification, ERDAS for the image processing, and ERDAS and Lotus for the mathematical model formation.
