Using MapObjects To Integrate GIS into a Mobile Computing Environment
The information contained in most corporate databases has value beyond the location to which it is generally bound by its computing environment. Recent advances in hardware and software have begun to make the computing environment mobile. These mobile environments demand highly integrated software, as well as a sensitivity to hardware resource constraints. GIS technology vendors have recently begun to release products based on a component architecture that supports the demands of mobile computing. This paper describes the experience of San Diego Data Processing Corporation's use of Esri's MapObjects product in the development of an application for pen-based computers integrating GIS into the mobile computing environment.
