GIS and Statistics Contribute the Space Dimension to Health Care Services Research

Defining Issue: To construct a measure of available health care services for municipalities. GIS Solution: Distance between localities and their population affects basic index in assessing the effect of local health cares sectors on households decisions. Methodology: The first step is to build the index with principal components with some of the health variables. With GIS, coordinates modify the basic index with statistical conception. The new modified index order reselects the municipalities. Software: SPSS constructs the 2,403 municipalities indexes. dBASE IV program with ArcInfo coordinates gives distances between all pairs and selects the neighbors of each municipality. A second program modifies basic index by population amounts and pairs distance. ArcView Version 1 reflects selected municipalities that affect others and modifies their index.
