Using Image-Based Themes in ArcView Version 3

As the scope of desktop GIS expands, more and more users are finding it desirable to incorporate raster-based images as themes into their overall ArcView GIS strategy. While it is possible to do this, not many are aware of this capability of ArcView and, of those that are, most are not aware of the many tricks and techniques that can be used to dramatically increase the power of this versatile desktop GIS environment. This paper will provide a comprehensive overview of utilizing image themes in ArcView (Version 3). Topics covered will include the many ways raster-based images can be used in ArcView, sources of raster-based data for ArcView, and techniques and recommendations for incorporating raster data into an ArcView GIS project. The paper will focus on ArcView Version 3 and its capabilities but will include a brief introduction into how the Spatial Analyst extension can be added to ArcView to greatly enhance Archive's existing raster analysis capabilities. The presentation will include a live ArcView demonstration with examples of all topics discussed.
