TGS-Integrated Geoinformation System for Telecommunications
The speed of changes in the telecommunication industry, rapidly increasing scope of services offered to the customers, and tough competition urge use of GIS as a tool for marketing, customer relationship support, design/engineering, operations support, emergency fault response, and so forth. Recently, there have been many requests on GIS to support traditionally nongraphical business applications. Through the years, there has been quite a number of applications in GIS aimed at supporting telecommunication business processes, but they were often isolated to one or a group of business functions, data were duplicated, and produced a large amount of redundant work. TGS (Telecommunication Geoinformation System) is a comprehensive system that employs a client-server architecture with single data server (based on Esri SDE and a relational database) for all supported processes and an object-oriented system design that is flexible and open to new object types and new business procedures. This paper describes the
features and the modular structure of the product, data requirements, basic software infrastructure, and other TGS properties. It also describes integration with other business software packages such as SAP R/3 and CADs. It also presents basic system configuration and flexibility.
