Using the Geographic Information System in the Slovenian* Police Forces
In the Slovenian Police we have been using GIS in our work for more than five years. GIS data and Esri software are used for: - Ensuring better support while making relevant decisions such as police patrols we must direct to a location of a certain event, reported by a citizen to the intervention phone number 113 - Analysis and statistical data treatment of traffic accidents, traffic violations, public order, and crime events - Better decision support of operative headquarters in case of bigger nature disasters, bigger crime events or escort of VIP person. In approximately half an hour, I would like to present to all participants at the 17th Annual Esri User Conference how the Slovenian Police use the GIS data with Esri software.I would especially like to present how we used GIS data with ArcView Version 2.1 for making maps (of routes, buildings, rooms, churches, and stadiums) and for ensuring better support of the operative headquarters, which took care of security while the Pope visited the Republic
of Slovenia in May of 1996.(*) Slovenia is a central European country between Austria and Italy. Slovenia has about two million citizens. The area is slightly larger than New Jersey, USA (20,296 sq km).
