Tools for Measuring Progress of Framework Activities

It is widely accepted that the National Spatial Data Infrastructure (NSDI) will be constructed from the ground up, using local data where available. While the process of building the NSDI is underway through such efforts as the National Geospatial Framework and the Geospatial Data Clearinghouse, there are currently no measures available for the GIS community to track progress of spatial data development among various levels of government. The National States Geographic Information Council (NSGIC) and the Federal Geographic Data Committee (FGDC) in collaboration with Esri are developing a process to track "framework" data development and identify who is currently performing institutional activities including data development, data distribution and data integration. This process will include the use of ArcInfo-based tools that will be used for input, analysis, and reporting the progress and status of the National Geospatial Framework. This session will summarize "framework" concepts and demonstrate the utility of interactive tools for this locally applied national process.
