A Sampling-Based Method for Inspecting Third Party Produced Maps  Paper Text

Defining Issue: Maps digitized under contract are rigorously inspected (100% inspection) upon receipt to confirm their adherence to specifications. That inspection process, however, is very time-consuming and expensive. GIS Solution: A statistically based process for inspecting delivered data is proposed. This process may take less time and money while providing a high degree of confidence in data quality. Methodology: The sampling approach identifies systematic data conversion problems at much lower cost than 100 per cent inspections. Data conversion contractors may use the methodology to help in process improvement efforts.
