Integrating the Esri Family of Products for Military Installation Management

United States military reservation managers are facing increasingly difficult problems in their jobs. While the Defense Department Budget has been declining for years, improved technology continuously fields new weapons and logistics vehicles and platforms with increased range and effectiveness. Military reservation managers must maintain readiness by housing and providing superior training opportunities for military personnel - with increasingly sophisticated equipment and continually declining budgets. One key tool for managing military reservations in the 21st century is the GIS-based integrated decision support systems. Such systems utilize an integrated reservation database containing data elements for physical geography, utilities as "as-built" infrastructures, training facilities, plans, environmental data, and natural resource features. This database is managed, analyzed, and visualized by an increasingly sophisticated set of GIS-based models that provide support for major decisions. This paper provides an overview of the capabilities integrated decision support systems for military reservation commanders and managers based on the Esri family of software products and models offered by third party Esri-registered developers.
