The Development of GeoMagic, Lifestyle Information Service System  Paper Text

Defining Issue: Recently it has been essential to develop a geographic service system on a network line for improving facility management and public service in Korea. Korea Telecom has implemented public service, GeoMagic, and has a future plan for various services. GIS Solution: GeoMagic, a lifestyle information service system, is providing geographic information such as locations of hotels, restaurants, movie theaters, public and traffic utilities, and various text information to the public using telephone lines. The future plan of our service is developing Internet GIS services this year and connecting GPS and several telecommunication utilities for developing useful real-time service. Methodology: GeoMagic provides E-mail, bulletin board, reservation, and traffic information services. PC emulator is connected to GeoMagic server when the user dials up to the GeoMagic server using a PC modem and server create process of SDE providing geographic and text information. The current service area of GeoMagic is Seoul, the capital of Korea and satellite towns and will be expanded to other major cities. The scale of the map source is 1:10,000, and the data have road, administration, water, building, and catastrophic layers, and so on. GeoMagic has six pages of displaying modules. They are classified on how to use and who to use. They all have common GIS functions of zooming, panning, and identifying others. Software: It is based on a hardware environment of DEC Alpha 2000 and software environment of SDE Version 2.1, Oracle 7.3, Tcl/Tk for implementing of SDE display module, and C++ for implementing PC emulator.
