Making Agricultural Maps with Differential GPS and ArcView GIS

Precision agriculture is based on two key technologies: GIS and GPS. This paper describes the fundamentals of these technologies and the required components for collecting data to make useful agricultural maps with ArcView. A useful agricultural map shows both fixed features (such as field boundaries and drainage) along with production variables (such as fertilizer application and yield data.) This past growing season has seen the wide use of yield monitors and differential GPS receivers, and some yield maps will be shown, along with a description of specific equipment and procedures used to collect and display the data in ArcView.
