High Paraguay Hydrographic Basin Conservation Plan - United Nations Program for Sustainable Development, Ministry of Environment, Interamerican Development Bank
The National Environmental Program has as a main component the High Paraguay Hydrographic Basin Conservation Plan, which involves areas of the Brazilian states of Mato Grosso and Mato Grosso do Sul. The plan proposes actions that promote sustainable development and improve the quality of life for the population directly involved. The High Paraguay Hydrographic Basin has a total extension of approximately 496 000 km2, 396 800 km2 in Brazil. The Integrated Center of Studies in GIS at Federal University of Paranae, southern region of Brazil, has created the GIS to support those basin activities of planning and management. This activity has involved the preparation and compatibility of existing information in different state agencies to create the database and applications to define the natural environmental units, environmental fragility units, and social economic units. The GIS main themes are geology, geomorphology, climatology, vegetation, fauna, hydrography, land use, and demographic dynamics.
