Data Quality Management
Defining Issue: Assuring and managing the quality of navigational information.GIS Solution: A hydrographic information system (HIS) to serve as a data source for all our nautical products, both paper and electronic charts. The HIS is implemented as a client/server GIS data management system integrated with work flow control. Methodology: Data quality management in HIS consists of two parts: assuring as high-quality of the data as possible and storing all information that describes the quality data. We try to reach these goals by forcing all the data to enter the database only through a rigorous data manipulation and quality checking procedure, where all steps are clearly defined and a trace (log) is left from all operations on the data. Each feature in the database will contain information about its origin, lineage, quality classification, and the history of its earlier states. The paper describes how the quality information is created during the input process and how it could be used when the system
will be in operation.Software: Oracle/SDE GIS server, Staffware work flow server, ArcView Version 3.0 clients
