Publishing Data in Pima County, Arizona
In July 1995 Pima County (Arizona) Department of Transportation, Technical Services Division embarked on a data publishing program. Using the RLIS Lite product from the Portland (Oregon) METRO group as a template, an Avenue interface was developed to provide more user-friendly access to DOT's GIS database than was available through CAD or ArcInfo. A CD ROM has been produced that contains 1) a project locked version of ArcView Version 2.1b; 2) a project file containing the customized access programs; 3) a selection of the most popular data sets from the DOT GIS (including all parcels and streets in Pima County, Arizona); and (4) an install program to simplify the installation process for users. Plans are to issue new CDs on a quarterly basis and to offer small data set updates over the Internet.
