Raster Basemaps Applications in California Government and Industry
Presentation will focus on current and emerging uses of raster basemaps and conversion utilities in state, regional, and county government. A variety of applications will be presented including the use of basemaps in the northern California flood crisis, California agriculture, environmental and wildlife management, transportation, public works, and planning. Talk will include ArcView and ArcInfo examples. In addition to the central theme of use applications, the presentation will include a short overview of the recently complete 1:24 thousand-scale Sure!MAPS RASTER CD series for the entire State of California from Horizons Technology Inc., Blue Marble Geographics Transformer software for performing raster and vector reprojection, and Knopf Engineering/Southern California Gas Companies precision street centerline data sets of California counties. The presentation will include examples of merging satellite, orthophoto, and raster and vector data. The presenter plans to include GIS/basemap applications
from the following agencies (subject to authorization by each agency): California Department of Fish and Game, California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection, California Governor's Office of Emergency Services, California Department of Transportation, Fresno County, Tulare County, and Kern Council of Government.
