The Role of a Systems Integrator in GIS Solutions Delivery
With the evolution of GIS from a proprietary technology with a focus on addressing single purpose, departmental requirements to that of a pivotal technology for enterprise data management, the deployment of GIS has grown in technical complexity. End users are no longer asking just for consulting expertise in GIS planning and implementation. More and more frequently, they are asking for help in integrating GIS into their enterprise information environment, as well as for the expertise needed to deal with shorter product life cycles, a shortage of skilled information technology professionals, and the need for technology solutions that are more responsive to business needs. This presentation discusses the ways in which many forward thinking organizations are relying on their spatial systems investments not just as point solutions for specific tasks, but as a mission-critical tool. It provides a perspective on the benefits of systems integration to the public and private sectors' need to reengineer as a means
to create better mechanisms for more productive work. Using real-world Esri customers as examples, it answers the questions "How can an integrated, enterprise approach to Esri deployment help the public and private sector to deliver better value to its customers?"
