Remote Sensing and Geographical Information Systems (GIS) Application for Natural Resources Management
Various natural resources thematic maps such as land use/land cover, soil, hydrogeomorphology, slope, drainage, and so forth, have been converted to a digital form in a GIS environment. These themes are then integrated and a composite land unit (CLU) map generated. Locale-specific natural resource potentials are evaluated. Alternate land use practices are derived based on the natural resources setup, and the rules framed were applied on the CLU. The resultant items are agro-based and locale-specific. The resultant "alternate land use model" is validated on the ground, and a good match is observed between the existing potential of the resources and the suggested alternative.
