National Imagery and Mapping College Training Activities

The National Imagery and Mapping College (NIMC) consists of the Defense Mapping School (DMS), the National Imagery and Analysis School (NIAS), a Systems Training School (STS), and a Career Development School. Of the four schools, DMS, NIAS, and STS all have missions to teach some form of GIS to a variety of internal NIMA employees, uniformed domestic and foreign military, civilian DoD and intelligence professionals, and representatives of other U.S. federal government agencies. These GIS-related courses range from applications for support of battle planning and operations to geospatial database quality control, population, and management. The following discussion provides a brief background of the NIMC, some statistics on its student population, descriptions of the courses offered and course content, and a description of the GIS hardware/software used to support NIMC's GIS training activities.
