The Decision of the Swedish Armed Forces to Choose ArcView and MapObjects as Basic COTS for GeoPres as the GIS Tool in the Different C3I and C4I Systems of the Armed Forces - Background and Arguments
The paper will describe : - the need for a new GIS tool for the Swedish C31 and C41 systems, as well as for weaponry platforms as a background - the investigation and evaluation process covering the state-of-the-art concerning what was available on the market during 1994-95 - the process of establishing a requirements list and the links to the different C31 and C41 systems and weaponry platforms - the description of the user of GeoPres; the data requirements - the requirements from the Swedish Total Defence Organizations and the major arguments for our choice. The unique thing with the concept is that GeoPres will be used: - on all levels of command from the company level to the Joint Operations Staff of the Swedish Armed Forces - in all services and branches from the mechanized infantry company to the naval logistics units - to comply with the requirements of full international interoperability in the NATO/PFP community or in multinational peace keeping missions, and by the Swedish Total Defence
Organizations as rescue, police, transport authorities, medical authorities, and so forth.
