A Data Collection and Analysis Strategy for Agriculture Producers
The integration of GIS and GPS technologies promises to stimulate interest and development in the field of precision agriculture, which seeks to utilize site specific data to better manage crop inputs. This presentation investigates a number of functions designed to automate data collection techniques in a farm field by integrating GPS technologies with the SSToolbox agricultural information system by SST Development Group. Data capture functionality is discussed as well as analysis capabilities which enable users to obtain the greatest amount of information from their sampling efforts. These analyses are aimed at sampling farm fields in a manner which characterizes variability in crop yield. The paper provides an overview of data types which can be collected in farm fields with such a system and how the data can be used to affect management practices by providing decision support.
